Peter Frampton and Guitar Reunite!

Who knew Peter Frampton lives in Cincinnati?  I didn't until I caught this past weekend's CBS Sunday Morning's portrayal of Peter.  He also recently reaquired his old guitar.  It's a great story; the guitar, which he played on "Frampton Comes Alive," was lost when a plane carrying his equipment crashed while Peter was on tour.  Check out the story below...

Happy Fat Tuesday!

The festive spirit is here at True Oldies 1070!  Rosanna from our sales department just came into the studio and gave me a mask to put on!  At least I THINK it's for Mardi Gras.

Kenny Powers Pitches For My Hometown Team!

Well, the Myrtle Beach Mermen are a fictional team in season 3 of HBO's "Eastbound And Down," and after a trip to the Mexican League last year, Kenny's on the Grand Strand this year.  Let's just say that my terrifically understanding wife tolerates the show.  If she doesn't watch it herself, at least she lets me.  I know the show isn't for kids, but Kenny reminds me of so many people I went to school with, and I'm looking forward to spotting landmarks and places I frequented while growing up.  Oh, and Will Ferrell is back, and that's a good thing, too.

Man Suffers Heart Attack At Heart Attack Grill!

Back in 2008, CBS Sunday Morning profiled the original Heart Attack Grill after it opened in Chandler, Arizona.  The restaurant is now in Las Vegas too, and last week a customer had a heart attack in the Grill while enjoying the "Triple Bypass Burger."  Thankfully he's OK, but tourists while actually taking pictures of the man, and there's an amateur online video of the man being taken out of the restaurant.    Well, they do say their oversize burgers are a "taste worth dying for."  Also on the menu..."Flatline Fries!"  When it comes to food like that, I think I'll stick to my boring beans and rice, and fresh fruit and veggies, thank you very much.

Maroon 5, Foster The People AND The Beach Boys Last Night!

Great job done by all!  So cool seeing Brian Wilson who seemed pleased with the music.   Bonus points to Foster The People for sporting the Beach Boys-style shirts!

The Beach Boys WITH Brian Wilson!

Sunday night I will watch the Grammies.  They honestly haven't been too important for me these last few years.  This year it's different because the Beach Boys will kick off their 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour with an appearance on the program, and this one includes the driving force of the group, Brian Wilson!

If you're a fan, you know that Brian hasn't toured with the group in over 45 years, so Sunday night will be special.  They really aren't the same, to my thinking, without him.  Seeing the group sans Brian would be akin to the Kinks without Ray Davies or the Who with no Pete Townshend.

Fans of the group, and Rock and Roll fans in general are pulling for Brian after all his much publicized problems in the past.  So join me Sunday night in seeing one of the all time greatest groups in history, the one and only Beach Boys on the Grammy Awards, then let me know what you thought at bob@ trueoldies1070.com.

Can't imagine things without the Beach Boys.  No matter the season, with them it's always an Endless Summer.

Here's a pic of the band in rehearsal for their Grammy performance.

Look Who Stopped By The Studio!

The lovely (and supremely talented) Christi Moore from Cabaret Oldtown, one of my favorite places in Wichita, dropped by to talk about their new show, Jukebox! Dueling Divas-The Women of Rock and Roll.  The show includes over 40 songs made famous by 28 different lady rockers, and it stars Christi, Angela Geer, Kaye Brownlee and Megan Parsley.  Except for the Cabaret Oldtown Band, this is a testosterone-free show!  I make the Cabaret whenever I can, and if you're looking for a fun night in Wichita, I highly recommend a visit!

It seems as if Christi
has a gun to my back.

Win Wichita Thunder Tickets!

Hey!  Listen mornings through Tuesday the 14th to win tickets for the Wichita Thunder and Laredo Bucks at Intrust Bank Arena on Valentines Night!  After the game, there will be a mass marriage ceremony on the ice!  If getting hitched after a great hockey game sound fun, I can make it happen!  Email me at bob@trueoldies1070.com.  Love is in the air and on the ice with True Odies 1070!

Halftime In America

There were some commercials that stood out in yesterday's Superbowl.  The Doritios spot with the dog buying the man's silence with Doritios was pretty funny, but for my money, the best, bar-none, was from Chrysler.  "Halftime In America" featured Clint Eastwood, and it made me want to stand up and cheer.  Having worked and lived in the Motor City for 5 years, I made friends who have been hurt with Detroit's and the auto industry's hard times.  But the Big Three are coming back., and I couldn't be happier.  Check out the commercial...and feel free to cheer.

Oh by the way, the Giants won the Superbowl.

So Long Don Cornelius.

There's sad news out of Los Angeles today.  Don Cornelius, the host and founder of Soul Train has been found dead.  Read the story here.  Don was 74.
